Volgens Sutthisak Sangkhamon, eigenaar van Apodagis, zie Apodagis, is deze Hoya gekocht in Manilla. Het is een Hoya, die in de wildernis gekruist is met waarschijnlijk Hoya loherii.

Hoya myrmecopa subsp. kapatalanensis, named by D. Kloppenburg. I origionally got this plant with the name Hoya sp 25. It was first found in 2007 in the Philippines. (Michael Dahms)

I would describe Hoya myrmecopa as having an elliptic leaf shape and Hoya sp 25 as having lanceolate leaves. The peduncles differ as well, with myrmecopa's being a short 1cm long while Hoya sp 25 develops many 7cm long peduncles and flowers readily. (Michael Dahms)

It is one of the species that have a negative geotopic inflorescence. This means that the peduncles grow upwards, there are more, like H. greenii, H. darwinii, H. mitrata, H. kaikoeana, H. 'Patricia'.
